TRS leaders to protest in Delhi on Apr 11 against the Centre’s rice procurement policy

TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi) MPs and leaders will sit on a one-day dharna in Delhi on 11th April to protest the Central government’s discriminatory policy on rice procurement, as per the sources.

The process would be conducted at the premise of the Telangana Bhavan in Delhi by TRS MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and elected representatives of rural and urban local bodies.

TRS government of Telangana has been demanding the Centre procure the entire parboiled rice from the state. However, the Central government has been saying it can procure only raw rice, not the parboiled rice which is not consumed largely in India.

On Thursday, TRS party MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, who is the daughter of Telangana state CM K Chandrashekar Rao warned the Central government that farmers will be forced to protest in the national capital if entire parboiled rice is not purchased from the state.

She also alleged that the Centre was making excuses for not procuring parboiled rice from the Telangana state and accused of meting out ‘step-motherly treatment’ to the state.
