The Congress party on Sunday announced 10 candidates for the Rajya Sabha polls which are to be held on June 10. The age-old party is fielding Union ministers Jairam Ramesh, P Chidambaram, and Ajay Maken as well as the party’s chief spokesperson Randeep Surjawala. Jairam Ramesh was fielded from Karnataka, Chidambaram from Tamil Nadu, Surjewala from Rajasthan, and Maken from Haryana.
The party also fielded Pramod Tiwari and Mukul Wasnik from Rajasthan, Rajeev Shukla and Ranjeet Ranjan from Chhattisgarh, Vivek Tankha from Madhya Pradesh, and Imran Pratapgarhi from Maharashtra. Of the 55 vacancies arising in the Rajya Sabha in the next two months, seven Congress members — Ramesh (Karnataka), Chidambaram (Maharashtra), Vivek Tankha (Madhya Pradesh), Ambika Soni (Punjab), Kapil Sibal (Uttar Pradesh), Pradeep Tamta (Uttarakhand), and Chhaya Verma (Chhattisgarh) — will be completing their tenure.
