Manipur Elections: Polling ends for the first phase with 78.03% voter turnout till 5 pm

The first phase of voting for the Manipur Assembly election started on 28th February 2022 (Monday). In the first phase of the two-phase election, 38 assembly constituencies of the state went for polling.

As per the sources, Manipur has witnessed 78.03% voter turnout till 5 pm.

173 candidates are in the fray in the first phase of Manipur Elections 2022. Polling began at 7 am and continued till 4 pm. The voters who are Covid positive or are under quarantine were allowed to cast their votes at the last hour.

Rajesh Agrawal, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur informed, “A total of 12,09,439 voters including 6,28,657 female, 5,80,607 male, and 175 transgender voters are in phase-1 who will exercise their franchise across 1721 polling stations. There is a total of 10,041 PwD electors and 251 centenarian voters in the 38 assembly constituencies”.

Rajesh Agarwal on Monday said that a Manipur Police personnel was killed in a suspected case of accidental firing from his service rifle.

Polls for the 60-member Manipur Assembly will be held in two phases on 28th February and 5th March.
