The first phase of polling to the 60-member Manipur assembly will be conducted on Monday followed by the second round on 5th March. The results of the Manipur elections will be announced on 10th March.
As per the ECI (Election Commission of India), the state has 985,119 men, 1,049,639 women, and 208 transgender voters. The voters with 80+ age are 41,867.
The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), which got 21 seats has formed the government in 2017 with the help of the National People’s Party, Lok Janshakti Party, and Naga People’s Front.
In Moirang, lawmaker Phairembam Saratchandra Singh is fielding on a Congress ticket after the refusal of his nomination by BJP.
According to the ECI, out of 2959 polling booths, 1099 and 763 have been identified as vulnerable and critical respectively. The polling will be held following the covid-19 protocols under which te number of voters per booth has been curtailed and voting time has been increased.
