Manipur Election Re-polling: EC Orders Voting On 12 Booths On March 5

On Thursday, the Election Commission ordered re-polling on 12 polling stations under five assembly constituencies on 5th March. The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajesh Agrawal said that the proposal for re-poll in 12 polling stations in Imphal East and Churachandpur districts was recommended based on the information received from the respective returning officers.

He said, one of the main reasons for consideration of re-polling was that miscreants have damaged Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during and after the first phase of polling on 28th February.

The CEO said that in the first phase of polling in 38 assembly segments, 88.63% of total voters have cast their vote. He also said that the voter turnout of males and females is 87.29% ad 89.96% respectively.

Women voters are nearly 52% percent of the total of 20,48,169 people eligible to cast their votes in the 60 seat Manipur assembly polls.

The second phase of polls in the remaining 22 assembly constituencies will be conducted on Saturday and the counting of votes would be done on 10th March.
