Manipur CM Biren Singh Expands Cabinet

Six new ministers joined the BJP-led government in Manipur as CM N Biren Singh expanded his cabinet after returning to power last month.

The new cabinet ministers are BJP legislators Sapam Ranjan Singh (Konthoujam), H Dingo Singh (Sekmai), Letpao Haokp (Tengnoupal), L Susindro Meitei (Khurai), Thounaojam Basanta Singh (Nambol), and NPF’s Chingai MLA Khasim Vashum.

They were sworn in by Governor La Ganesan at the Raj Bhavan, Imphal. However, their portfolios are not announced yet.

With this, the cabinet’s strength increased to 12 – 10 ministers from the BJP and two ministers from the NPF.

Singh and five of his colleagues took oath as ministers on 21st March after the BJP won the state for the second consecutive term.

In the recently-held assembly elections, BJP and NPF won 32 and 5 seats respectively. The Biren Singh-led government had the support of the NPP (National People’s Party), KPA (Kuki People’s Alliance), JD(U), and the Independent MLAs in the assembly.

Congress, which won five seats, is the only opposition in the 60-member Manipur assembly.
