Today, Akhilesh Yadav fired back at PM Narendra Modi’s “terrorists choosing cycles” comment during an election rally in Uttar Pradesh, declaring that an “insult to bicycle is an insult to the entire nation”.
The SP (Samajwadi Party) leader’s retort was framed in a verse in Hindi on the bicycle, which is the election symbol of his party – as the “common man’s ride” and the pride of villages.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Modi had made disparaging comments linking the poll symbol of the Samajwadi Party to terrorists, in the context of the 49 people convicted of the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts.
The PM Narendra Modi remarked like this, “In the blasts, the bombs were used to kept on cycles…I wonder why they (terrorists) chosen cycles”.
He also accused the Samajwadi Party of withdrawing cases against those accused in Varanasi (2006), Ayodhya, and Lucknow (2007) blasts.
The Prime Minister was campaigning on a day Uttar Pradesh voted in the third round of Assembly polls, in which the ruling BJP faces a strong challenge from Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party.
The Uttar Pradesh and the other four states’ election results will be announced on 10the March 2022.
