Just days ahead of Punjab polls, CM Charanjit Singh Channi said ‘don’t let Uttar Pradesh, Bihar Ke Bhaiya enter Punjab’. At the time of this remark, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi could be seen standing by him smiling and applauding.
Now, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has hit back, saying the CM has insulted the people of Bihar and UP.
AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) chief Arvind Kejriwal also slammed the reported remark of Channi.
Charanjit Singh Channi is the Congress’s official chief ministerial face in the Punjab elections. His CM candidature was announced earlier this month by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The party conducted a televoting for the CM face and Channi secured votes than Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is Punjab Congress President.
With Charanjit Channi’s nomination as the CM candidate, the Congress hopes to win over the Dalit voters of Punjab. Dalits make up more than 32% of the population of Punjab.
Punjab is going to assembly elections on 20th February for all 117 seats in a multi-cornered fight between the AAP, the Congress, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and the alliance of BJP & former CM Captain Amarinder Singh-led PLC (Punjab Lok Congress).
