A member of industrialist Gautam Adani’s family – the magnate himself or his wife Dr. Priti Adani – may get a Rajya Sabha ticket from Andhra Pradesh, from where elections will be held on 10th June.
Earlier, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has given a Rajya Sabha ticket to Parimal Nathwani, senior group president of Reliance Industries.
According to some sources, Jagan Mohan Reddy is likely to accommodate industrialist Gautam Adani’s family as proposed by Amit Shah. During a recent meeting, the Union Home Minister had discussed the chances of the YSRCP giving a Rajya Sabha ticket to the Adanis and Jagan had agreed to do the same.
Chief Minister Jagan has also decided to retain YSRCP general secretary V. Vijayasai Raddy in the Upper House. Beeda Mastanrao is being proposed for a seat that is reserved for the BC community. For another RS seat, there is a chance of nominating Niranjan Reddy, Jagan’s lawyer.
If the proposal for Niranjan Reddy fails then former minister Killi Krupa Rani might be sent to the Rajya Sabha.
According to the YSRCP sources, if the social engineering calculations changed at the last minute then the fourth RS seat may go to a candidate from the Minority or SC community, in the view of the 2024 elections.
The tenure of Vijayasai Reddy and three BJP Rajya Sabha members Sujana Chaudhary, TG Venkatesh, and Suresh Prabhu will end on 21st June.
An average of 44 MLA votes are required to win each Rajya sabha seat and clearly, the YSRCP will win all four seats.
Andhra Pradesh has 11 seats in the Rajya Sabha and now five members belong to the YSRC party. With the filling of four seats on 10th June, the strength of YSRCP will raise from five to nine in the Upper House.
The tenure of YSRC’s Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, BJP’s C.M. Ramesh, and TDP’s Kanakamedala Ravindra will end on 22nd April next year.
